Should You Choose Online Or Local Computer Repair?

Posted on

If you are having computer problems, you have two main options for getting repairs done; visit a local repair shop or get online computer help. Here are some things to think about when deciding between these two options.

Do you need help right away?

One big factor when deciding if you want to get online PC help or go to a local computer repair shop is how quickly you want help. If you use an online computer repair service, you will most likely get the repairs done more quickly. Many times, you can get the repairs done during the same session, which may only take a few minutes. If you go to a local shop, not only does it take time driving there and back, but you might need to leave your computer with them for a while.

If you are not first on their list of computers to repair, it could be days before you get your computer back. If it is an urgent matter, start with an online service and take it from there.

Is it is a software or hardware problem?

Online computer repair services can help with minor problems, but if it is a major hardware or software problem, they won't be able to help much. Not because they aren't knowledgeable, but because they need to access your computer to figure out what the problem is. In this case, you would need to take your computer to a local repair shop.

If you can't get to a local shop but have a software or hardware problem, your other option is to call a remote computer technician. They will actually bring their equipment and come out to your home or place of business to make the repairs. They should be able to troubleshoot the problem fairly quickly. If you can't access the Internet, programs aren't loading, or your computer crashed, you won't be able to get help from online computer services.

Do you have a fast Internet connection?

A stipulation for getting online help is to not only have an Internet connection, but a fast one. If your Internet isn't stable and you have the risk of disconnecting, you will have a hard time getting the help you need. Plus, if the remote repair technician needs to connect to your network in order to troubleshoot the computer problem you are having, they need a fast speed in order to accomplish it. If you don't have fast Internet or the problem is with your connection speed, visit a local computer repair shop.
